Each year in September, our staff undergoes extended training--educational days that we call the "Blitz."
Not only is it a good chance to get a bunch of mandatory training done in one day, but it's also a chance for staff to get to know one another better in a more relaxed setting.
Our staff are work hard, relating to our residents and seeing to their needs, but they often don't get much of a chance to relate to each other. Although sitting through lectures doesn't give much chance to interact, between sessions and over the potluck breakfast is a perfect opportunity to connect.
It's true that not all staff enjoy these educational sessions as much as I do, but it's also true that the Blitz helps us to function more as a team, simply because we get to see the team.
Go team!
