A Feeling of Fall
It's the most wonderful time of the year. Well, maybe that's Christmas-time, but I can't help but feel that autumn is a pretty special season too. Here at the Home, we feel like a celebration is in order every day and we make the effort to celebrate seasons and holidays with a special flare.
This fall, we have many exciting activities planned. Here are just a few:
-Six-Foot Banana Split in honor of Banana Festival Day on September 20. It is exactly what it sounds like. Residents get to enjoy watching staff build a banana split six feet long. After it's all finished, we dish it out and--like good celebrants--eat it.
-Mystery Outing with Lunch on September 22. Naturally, I can't say much about this outing because we don't want word to get out about it. Last year, the outing involved a picnic at Evergreen Lake, a drive around the countryside, and even a fun time of blowing bubbles into the breeze. Of course, part of the fun is in speculating at the destination.
-Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall Party on September 25. Each year, we bid summer goodbye in a mixed party with snacks and activities from both seasons (ice cream, apple cider donuts, hot chocolate, lemonade, etc.).
-Visit from Sower's Kindergarten class on September 29 and to Sower's on October 20. School has started up again, and we enjoy planning visits with them each month, alternating visits to the school and from the school.
-Outing to Starved Rock for a picnic on October 10. There's nothing like enjoying the fresh fall air during a picnic lunch. And the beautiful scenery of Starved Rock makes this outing even more enjoyable.
-A.C. Nursing Homes' Annual Social on October 27. This is a great time of fellowship for residents to get out and visit residents from other homes--some even reconnect with childhood friends or relatives.
So you can see why I say that it's the most wonderful time of the year. With so much to celebrate, it's easy to get excited about the season!
