Many of the ladies in our Home have spent a lifetime cooking for family, friends, church potlucks, and socials. And even though sometimes it seemed like a chore when they were younger, many of them miss their days in the kitchen.
We love to give them the opportunity to cook again, alongside other ladies and with whatever supervision is necessary.
Some of the treats we've made in cooking include cherry cobbler, chocolate pecan pie, Texas sheet cake (the chocolate frosting is what's on the spoon in the picture), and apple struesel muffins.
We also spend an afternoon a month cooking for a ladies luncheon--making such things as steak marinade, salad dressing, meatloaf, and other meals.
What we discover as we spend these cooking times together is that cooking is not only a great way to stay active, but it's also a great way to build community within the Home. We take a special pride in serving and eating something we created and we enjoy making memories with others.
