National Snack Food Month
I don't know anyone who doesn't like a snack. My coworkers laugh at me, because I'm always the first to grab a handful of almonds and a chocolate bar mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Meals just don't come often enough for me to stay energized and focused.
So February--National Snack Food Month--is a great month for me to celebrate.
Often, when I think of snack foods, I think of chips, crackers, popcorn, Twinkies, brownies, and cake.
It's seldom that the word "snack" conjures up images of grapes, apples, carrots, or peppers.
But if we want to celebrate without making ourselves feel icky or getting a short-lived sugar high, these are the sorts of snacks we should make into a habit.
Lest you think that I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth here (since I just shared a recipe for Salted Caramel Pretzel Bark), let me make myself clear.
Occasional splurging is not a problem. Lifestyle splurging is. Let's not get them confused.
And really, why do fruits, veggies, and whole grains get such a bad rep? They're delicious and nutritious and contribute to our overall health. What's not to love?
