People like to talk about freedom on days like today, when we are feeling sentimental and full of heavy picnic food. We lean back in our camp chairs and think about how wonderfully blessed we are to have America. After all, America is truly "the land of the free and the home of the brave," right?
Yes. America is an incredible nation.
But you could live in the most restrictive nation on earth and still be free.
That's the freedom that really counts, the kind that people are really after, if they're honest with themselves.
A freedom like this is much more valuable than the freedom of a country, because it depends not on our circumstances, but instead on the condition of our heart.
I won't stand behind a pulpit, but let me just say that true freedom--the only freedom that can reach the heart--comes only through Jesus Christ.
Yes, our country is incredible, and, by all means, eat the red, white, and blue cupcakes. But I hope that's not the only freedom you celebrate today.
May your Fourth be a celebration of freedom!
