National Day of Prayer

May 7, 2020

Martin Luther, the great reformer of the 16th century, said that "to be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing."

Since 1952, our nation has recognized the importance of prayer by dedicating the first Thursday in May as being a National Day of Prayer.

Sometimes I look at our country and shake my head. How can God extend mercy to a country that so often rejects His way?

But then I remember that there are still many, many people who take the time to pray over our country at least one day of the year.

I recently discovered an interesting article from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which basically claims that having a National Day of Prayer is unconstitutional.

This article is a simple reminder to me that we are in a battle. Satan knows the power of praying people and he would love to see us neglect it or even ban it from our country,

but the people of God need to pray now more than ever before as our world grows darker and darker. It is not an option for us. As Luther stated, it is a necessity.

How can you lift up our nation today?
