Memorial Day

May 25, 2020

Memorial Day is an old holiday--dating to 1868, just on the heels of the Civil War. With the fallen soldiers still fresh in the minds of the population, General John Logan proclaimed that “we should guard their graves with sacred vigilance... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”

Have we forgotten the cost of freedom? Have those who have died for our liberty gone unappreciated?

Today, we have the opportunity to say thank you to those who have served and paid with their lives. We also have the opportunity to recognize those who were and are willing to pay that price.

America is a free country because of people's sacrifice. We cannot stand on that sacrifice and neglect to recognize it.

Happy Memorial Day from our Home to yours!
